Young White Rhino calf in South Africa

Anton Mzimba was a brave man in South Africa who dedicated his life to protecting the rhinos was brutally murdered in front of his entire family. Mzimba was one of the head rangers at the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve and one of the Global Conservation Corps’ advisors. He helped protect rhinos from illegal poachers, who his family believes are the exact ones who took away his life.

The three murderers opened fire on his wife as well, who is fighting for her life. The perpetrators have not been found, arrested, or charged with Mzimba’s murder.

The illegal wildlife trade has exploded in recent years, now totaling close to 10 billion U.S. dollars annually, according to the United Nations. It reaches across countries and industries and is a major Conservation issue. Whether animals are captured and sold alive to fuel the exotic pet trade or killed and turned into consumer products, tourism souvenirs, or ingredients in traditional medicine, the wildlife trade puts species and ecosystems at serious risk. It is second only to habitat destruction as a major cause of species extinction.

Mzimba dedicated his life to stopping these people and helping save the animals of his country. There was an estimated 500,000 rhinos in the wild in the 1900s, but now, the population has dwindled to 27,000. Mzimba’s life was cut short and left his children without a father and one less person is protecting the rhinos.

Sign the petition now to urge authorities to do whatever it takes to find Anton Mzimba’s cowardly killers!
