A recent study conducted by the organization behind the Smart City Expo World Congress has highlighted the top nations making strides in green energy production. This research focused on renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, evaluating the output relative to population size by analyzing energy production per 100,000 people.
The Netherlands leads the world in this race, producing 171.93 megawatts (MW) per 100,000 capita, placing it at the forefront of renewable energy development. Germany follows closely, generating 161.09 MW per 100,000 people, while Spain ranks third with 130.44 MW.
The study also revealed that 11 of the top 20 countries pioneering green energy are in Europe, with others located across Asia, Africa, North America, and Latin America. According to Ugo Valenti, director of Smart City Expo World Congress, “Renewable energy sources are key to our future as they do not produce polluting emissions. They must play a central role in the global agendas.”
