When we launched One Green Planet back in 2013, we had one simple goal. We wanted to build a digital media company that challenged conventional thinking on sustainability and empowered people with everyday solutions to combat our current environmental crisis. In less that three years, we’ve emerged as one of the fastest-growing digital media start ups paving the way for eco-conscious millennials, with over 6 million monthly visitors. Through this growth and evolution, one thing has stayed constant; we’ve remained laser-focused on our core underlying vision of connecting the food we eat with its impact on the planet and showcasing plant-based food as the answer. I’m proud to say that we were one of the first media companies to make this connection and relentlessly take this message forward by putting our blood, sweat, and tears into making One Green Planet what it is today.
Why Vegan Recipes?
As part of this vision, we focused on incorporating vegan recipes as the cornerstone of One Green Planet’s content. Our goal was to showcase recipes from everyday bloggers across the world, highlighting the breadth and depth of possibilities when it comes to cooking without meat, dairy or eggs. This commitment to building the most compelling and delicious assortment of homemade recipes is the reason why today, One Green Planet boasts the Internet’s largest collection of over 15000+ vegan recipes and attracts a loyal following. Vegan recipes on One Green Planet are hugely popular amongst a broad cross-section of the population, including people with a range of dietary preferences.
With everyone using their smartphones in the kitchen these days, the logical next step was to translate One Green Planet’s vegan recipe category into a cutting-edge, user-friendly mobile app.
Presenting Food Monster!
Today, I am very excited to announce that we are launching our app called Food Monster, which brings incredible vegan recipes straight into the palm of your hands. You can download the Food Monster App here or search for it on the app store. We also urge you to help us make this app better by reporting any concerns or issues to [email protected]
This app has been made possible by the incredible, hard work put in by my Co-Founder, and One Green Planet’s Product Lead, Preeta Sinha. Preeta’s background and knack for building scalable products by taking complex systems and simplifying them into tangible, extremely useful tools has not only resulted in a food app that is incredibly rich in terms of functionality, but also absolutely stunning from a design and technology standpoint. She is relentless and persistent in her efforts and entirely fueled by passion for our mission, against all odds. The work that went into making this app a reality was challenging for sure, with sleepless nights and numerous hurdles to overcome for a small team, but Preeta stayed on course and made sure the end product was not only of the highest quality but also capable of the large-scale impact you’ve come to expect from One Green Planet on a daily basis. She is a rebel, driven by a great cause, with a big heart; I’m proud to call her my co-founder. Congratulations, Preeta and the One Green Planet development team for bringing this app and our vision to life.
Thanks to this effort, the Food Monster App features a whopping 15,000+ vegan recipes, and 10+ new recipes are added daily (that’s almost 3,000 new recipes added every year). We’re talking hearty burgers, cheesecakes, decadent desserts, as well as seasonal favorites. And with incredible HD photos, videos and slideshows the Food Monster App is literally a feast for your eyes!
Why Does the World Need This App Now?
More than ever, people are waking up to the fact that animal agriculture is at the heart of our current environmental crisis. This destructive industry currently occupies over half of the world’s arable land resources, uses the majority of our freshwater stores, and drives greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, this system causes rampant air and water pollution, land degradation, deforestation and is pushing countless species to the brink of extinction. And yet, one in eight people still suffer from food scarcity.
If we want to have any hope of sustaining nine billion people on this planet by 2050, we need to recognize the power we hold with our food choices.
We hope it will be tools like the Food Monster app that will propel an important shift in the way we eat and help transform our broken food system into a more equitable and sustainable one. Now with the Food Monster app, you have the opportunity to be part of the first chapter of the inspiring story of how we created a future where we eat delicious food that provides us with maximum benefit and has minimum negative impact on the planet.
The fork can be an incredibly effective tool in the fight against climate change, so download the Food Monster app, try a recipe from the vast collection, and let’s #Eat For The Planet on Earth Day and every day!
