There are few things as heart-warming as unlikely friendships between humans and animals – especially if the animals is one that generally steers away from showing us much affection. And although there are many cases of deer forming sweet interspecies friendships, they are still very much a kind of animal that we imagine rather on its own, wandering through a forest with an air of majesty. The deer in this video, however, though still so dignified and beautiful, turns out to be also very, very keen on getting some pets and snacks from a befriended lady!
To get to his human friend, the wild stag has to stand on his hind legs and reach up to her window, but he does not seem to mind at all. There, he can always count on a special treat, kind words, and some pets for a good measure. Doesn’t it all look rather like a scene from a Disney movie instead of real life?
Watching this sweet video, we all probably wish we also had a deer friend visiting us for strokes and snacks. But it is important to remember that, in general, feeding wildlife is not encouraged – while our intentions may be good, we’re usually unable to provide the animals with the exact kind of food they require, like in the case of feeding birds. Additionally, feeding wild animals also runs the risk of wildlife becoming dependent on human help when it comes to feeding themselves. This video is very cute, but we also encourage people to exercise extreme caution wildlife and avoid any interaction if it is not necessary.

I am thankful the article notes that it is not a good idea to feed wild animals- some people have fed deer so many apples that the deer got very ill- and the poor people thought they were doing a good thing by feeding the deer apples- it\’s not like they were giving them doughnuts!. And I agree with Agnes- sadly, hunters will set up bait stations to lure deer in to eat, and become habituated to the scent of humans- and then shoot the deer. But I am not really criticizing this nice lady- I\’d be feeding the deer too- but feeling guilty about it, the whole time!
I really don\’t want to be a spoilsport, but there are so many mean hunters everywhere, who can easily use this friendship to kill the deer. Whilst humanity at large poses a danger to animals, it\’s selfish to tame them and leave them defenceless like that.
