It’s incredibly heartwarming when a child or teenager has a lot of compassion and respect for other species. It fills us with hope that they will continue to love and respect wildlife and animals, and that they’ll also grow to be the same way with the planet and all their fellow human beings. There are such magnificent children and teens doing amazing work from Greta Thunberg fighting for the planet to Genesis Butler fighting for animals.
Darius Brown is an amazing 13-year-old boy who uses his sense of fashion and his sewing skills to help animals get adopted.
His older sister taught him to sew when he was just 8 years old as a way to help him with a delay in motor skills. Being the amazing person he is, he’s using what he taught to help animals. He created Beaux and Paws because he said, “I made it my mission to help as many dogs and cats as I possibly can. I feel like if they’re wearing my bow tie it gives them that push, or the dapperness, cuteness they need to find their forever, loving home.”
He was inspired to begin this amazing work after seeing how animals were affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma in 2017. At first he was just helping local shelters, but after much success, he decided to send his bowties to shelters around the world to help the animals there as well.
Darius Brown has a GoFundMe page where people can Donate to help him with purchasing supplies, transportation/accommodations to out of state and local shelters, shipping fees (to ship bow ties to shelters that he may not get a chance to visit), and creating a new website. You can also follow his Instagram page to follow his shelter visits, bowtie donations, and see the dogs available for adoption that he highlights.
