When a family member, including the little furry ones, get sick or injured, most people would all do whatever it takes to help them. It’s hard to watch a loved one suffer and we all want to help those that we care about.
After visiting NYC, a little pig named Pickles became very ill. His parents rushed him to the animal hospital at UC Davis and found out that he had ingested rat poison. The doctors gave Pickles only six hours to live. However, his parents refused to give up on their little pig.
His parents began the search to find a pig that veterinarians could use for a life-saving blood transfusion. They ended up finding a 450-pound pig that a farmer was selling on Craigslist. Then, they found another person on Craigslist that was able to get a truck to transport the pig to the UC Davis animal hospital. The pig arrived an hour later than Pickles was supposed to live, but he was still fighting. Doctors performed the transfusion and it saved Pickle’s life!
Pickle’s parents knew they couldn’t let someone else buy the pig who saved his life as she might be sent to slaughter. Thus, they bought her, named her Tickles, and brought her to an animal sanctuary in Napa that had been following the story. Now Tickles is living out her life in peace at the sanctuary and Pickles is thriving at home with his family of other rescue animals.
