Anna Sandhu Ray, the ex-wife of MLK assassin James Earl Ray, is facing 44 counts of animal cruelty after 40 dogs were taken from her home in a horrific situation. Animal Rescue Corps has taken in the neglected animals, the team shared via email.

Ray has been caught hoarding animals before, 25 years ago. This time, dogs were taken from her house in Jackson, TN and are available for rescue. The organization reported that 3 dogs had died when the team arrived on the scene.

“ARC’s Field Team just deployed today at a hoarding case so bad that it’s deadly. About 44 surviving dogs have been living in a condemned house on piles of trash and their own waste. Some are caged. There was no food or water when ARC’s Field Team arrived,” the group’s Facebook post shared.

Per a Statement from Tim Woodward, Executive Director at Animal Rescue Corps: “The conditions at Ms. Ray’s home are among the worst we have seen in the ten years we have been dealing with cases where large numbers of animals are suffering. These dogs desperately needed to be removed from that unlivable environment and will need ongoing veterinary care. We appreciate the City of Jackson and Jackson Animal Services for immediately requesting our help with this difficult rescue.”
