Thanks to the help of some compassionate children and the Hope for Paws team, five puppies and their mother are safe and sound, despite the circumstances.
It all started off with a group of local kids that found the puppies at a construction site. Because children naturally identify with animals, it was no surprise that they immediately wanted to get the babies to safety, so they took them home to care for them. What they didn’t know, however, are that these babies were being cared for – by a loving and protective mother who had left to go find food. Poor mama!
When Hope for Paws learned of the situation, they were able to collect the puppies from the children. By returning the puppies to the original location, they could see if the mother would come back looking for them. It was a sweet reunion when she did, no doubt, she probably didn’t think she’d ever see them again! With the whole family back together, they could now concentrate on getting everyone the care they needed. Needless to say, mama certainly didn’t make it easy. As you can imagine, she was terrified of losing her babies again. But Loretta and Joanne worked as a team and successfully got them all loaded and transported to the vet.
It wasn’t long before they were all comfy, cozy, safe, and together. Oh, and their names, are oh so cute! The construction site reportedly was an old citrus grove so the mom was named Navalina and the babies are now Valencia, Bergamot, Ponderosa, Satsuma, Mandarin, and Clementine. What a wonderful ending to a scary situation for this mama and her little ones.
