It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.
There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including sending captive animals to sanctuaries, protecting emperor penguins from climate change, and ending Wyoming’s bobcat killings!
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.
1. Send Inseparable Lions Mufasa and Suraya to a Sanctuary!
Source: Save Mufasa the white lion
There are less than 300 white lions in the wild, only 13 in the wild. Mufasa is a captive white lion who was confiscated by authorities and handed to a wildlife rehabilitation center. They acquired a cub to keep him company named Suraya, and they are inseparable! They want to auction Mufasa though, to raise funds for the department. Sanctuaries have offered to care for the lions free of charge, but the rehab center won’t agree. But progress is being made. In February 2020, there will be a hearing in which the court will hear the case for why they should be sent to a sanctuary! Sign this petition to show your support. The number of supporters can have an influence over the results of the court hearing.
2. End Wyoming’s Bobcat Killing!
As of November 15, Wyoming residents can purchase a $45 license, and then proceed to shoot, use leghold traps, snares, conibear traps, choke poles, and basically any other means to take unlimited bobcat (and any other animal who happens into a trap). Please sign this petition to demand an end to these killings and contact the appropriate offices and contacts listed in the petition.
3. Protect Dumbo the Orphaned Coyote
In 2016, a family of coyotes in New York City were caught and euthanized by government officials, but one coyote escaped. He is just trying to survive and lives near LaGuardia Airport and Rikers Island Jail. He’s never been aggressive to humans and in fact is scared of humans. However, authorities believe they need to euthanize him for the protection of humans. Sign this petition to ask them to safely relocate him to a sanctuary or rehabilitation center if they capture him.
4. Save Australia’s Greater Glider from Extinction!
The greater glider is a federally threatened species. It’s a small gliding marsupial whose population keeps decreasing. The Strathbogie forest in north-east Victoria has one of the highest concentrations of greater gliders left in all of Australia. Yet the Victorian forest agency has allowed a logging campaign that threatens the habitat of these endangered animals. Sign this petition to ask Australia’s minister for energy, environment and climate change to stop the logging and protect the greater glider!
5. Save Suffering Horse Who’s Kept on a Chain Outside Year-Round!
In Clark County, Wisconsin, there is a horse who is kept outdoors on a chain all year long. In in rain, sleet, hail, snow, subzero cold, sweltering heat, and scorching sun, this poor horse is suffering out there. Sometimes there isn’t even a water pail out there for him. Concerned people have complained to authorities but they say no laws are being broken. Sign this petition in support that the horse should be taken from the cruel people who do not care for him at all!
6. Send Animals from Circus Where Tiger Collapsed to a Sanctuary!
Last year, a tigress named Zena made headlines when she collapsed during a show. She was jumping through hoops of fire and she suddenly fell and started having a seizure. The reaction of the “trainers” was to drag her by her tail, whip her, and poke at her. This is complete abuse. Wild animals do not even belong in circuses! Sign this petition to demand that Zena and all other wild aniamls in that circus be sent to a sanctuary and the circus be shut down!
7. Hunters Were Caught on Camera Sending Their Hounds to Tear a Fox to Pieces
West Kent Hunt Saboteurs set up drones to capture any illegal hunts, and the footage is absolutely devastating. In the video, a fox can be seen trying to move away from the hounds that have traced him. Two hounds grab him first and tug him like a piece of rope before dozens of other hounds pile on top of the fox and continue to shred him to pieces. Fox hunting is illegal in the UK. Sign this petition and ask the East Sussex Police and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to make this case a priority and bring these poachers to justice.
8. Hold Denmark Accountable for Their Part in the Slaughter of Pilot Whales!
Danish officials, including police, navy, and customs representatives, have been facilitating and supporting the slaughter of cetaceans in the Faroe Islands. In events known as “grindadráps,” Denmark assists the Faroese with ensuring that they can drive hundreds of pilot whales and other cetaceans into bays, where, while screaming in terror, their spinal columns are ruthlessly sliced, filling the bays full of blood. Sign this petition to urge the European Commission to bring Denmark to justice.
9. Stop Australia’s Cat Culling!
The Australian government plans to kill two million cats by 2020. They’re shooting, poisoning, trapping and bounty-killing outdoor cats. They even airdrop sausages laced with poison. They claim that feral cats are the single biggest threat to Australia’s native species. It was initially claimed that there were over 20 million cats on the continent, but further studies have found this to be untrue. More recent studies put the number between 2.1 and 6.3 million which is significantly lower. Sign this petition to demand an end to this cruel cat culling!
10. Protect Emperor Penguins From Extinction!
Emperor penguins rely on stable, unchanging ice to breed, raise babies, eat, and protect themselves from predators. If there is too much or too little ice, the penguins’ lives are totally disrupted and their chances of survival plummet. Stephanie Jenouvrier, a seabird ecologist, says that climate change is so severe, “the penguins will effectively be marching towards extinction over the next century.” Sign this petition to tell the U.S. to re-enter the Paris Agreement and those countries that have signed to uphold their end of the bargain!
