Dogs aren’t just our companions and best friends because they’re so lovable and cuddly. They save our lives in so many different ways. They’re provide comfort, guidance, and use their incredible sense of smell to detect diseases. Dogs’ wonderful smell detection skills are not only beneficial for humans, but for other species too. Train, for example, sniffs poop for conservation and thanks to his findings, wildlife are better protected! Similarly, K9s 4 Conservation trains dogs to sniff out turtle nests!

The video above shows Christian and his dog, Saul having fun on the beach where he sometimes sniffs for turtle nests. The dog clearly enjoys and has fun sniffing around, and Christian appears to reward Saul for his amazing sniffing skills. Christian uses the scent from sand collected near turtle nests to train the dogs.

This year alone, K9s 4 Conservation have already found three turtle nests. The goal is to “support ongoing conservation programs aimed at increasing critically endangered sea turtle populations.” We hope all the sniffing done for the sea turtles turns out to be great for the species!
