Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.
Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Demand Justice For Freya the Walrus, Pass Safe Harbor Laws to Keep Abortion Accessible, Make Dog Tethering Illegal in North Carolina!
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

A woman in Florida live-streamed her Chihuahua’s dead body after drowning the dog in a swimming pool. The heartbreaking murder caught on CCTV footage shows the woman taking the Chihuahua to the pool and holding the poor dog under the water while it was struggling. Regarding the footage turned over to the police, the Brevard County Sheriff, Wayne Ivy, described the video as “the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
The woman can be seen drowning the dog before beating the poor lifeless body on the concrete four times before going to social media to post photos of the corpse. The woman was charged with a felony, but more must be done. Prosecutors should include a lifetime ban on owning any pets as well as mandatory counseling. Sign this petition to demand a lifetime ban for this woman on owning any animals.
Opting out of selling your information should be an easy task. However, these boxes are often hard to find, and users should not have to find this button on every website that they visit just so that their information is not sold. Users on Google Chrome have to opt out of selling their information on every single website, over and over again.
Those who use Chrome should not have to go into every site that they visit to stop it from selling their information and data. Google can do something about this, but they are not. This petition is urging Google to provide Chrome users a global opt-out in the Chrome browser. New Jersey and West Virginia have laws that make it illegal to rescue a dog from a hot car. It is extremely dangerous to leave a pet in a hot car but unfortunately, amid the record heatwaves this summer, it’s not a rare occurrence. Even if it is only in the 70s outside, the inside of a car can heat up by 20 degrees in an extremely short amount of time.
Most states have laws that say good samaritans can rescue dogs from hot cars. However, New Jersey and West Virginia do not have these laws. In these two states, it is illegal to leave an animal in a hot car, but it is also illegal for anyone to save the animals from the car. Sign this petition to urge New Jersey and West Virginia to adopt laws saying good samaritans can save animals from hot cars!

Amid Roe V. Wade being overturned, abortion seekers are looking for ‘safe harbors’ where they can go to get the services that they need. States are banning abortion in nearly all cases, and we cannot let America turn into a nightmare for those who need these services.
Connecticut recently passed a safe harbor law that restricts how health care records are accessed by plaintiffs in bounty cases. Safe harbor laws protect people seeking abortions as well as abortion providers from “bounty” laws. Bounty laws incentivize people by giving cash rewards to successfully sue those who have helped a person get an illegal abortion. There is no reason that other states cannot pass similar safe harbor laws like Connecticut to protect pregnant people!
Sign this petition to encourage other states like Illinois, New York, and California to pass safe harbor laws and keep abortion accessible!

Owning a firearm makes an abuser five times more likely to kill their partner. Every 16 hours in the United States, someone is shot and killed by their partner or former partner. Luckily, convicted domestic abusers are not allowed to own a gun. However, this only applies if they have been married to the victim, live with the victim, have a child together, or are a victim’s parent or guardian. This, which many call the “boyfriend loophole,” allows all other convicted domestic abusers, including stalkers and current/former dating partners, to own guns.
This loophole allows thousands of abusers to have access to guns. 33 states have taken steps to close the loophole, but this should become a federal law to protect victims across the entire country! Recently Congress updated the Violence Against Women Act, and it’s time that they do it again. The new version includes protections for American, transgender, and immigrant women but is still too narrow and leaves too many people at risk.
Sign this petition to urge Congress to update the Violence Against Women Act and protect victims!

Tethering dogs is extremely dangerous and leaves them vulnerable to extreme weather, dehydration, and starvation. Being tethered restricts their movements and can even leave them vulnerable to attacks from other animals. Dogs are not meant to be on chains all day! North Carolina is working on passing a bill to make sure tethering dogs is illegal. We need to make sure that this bill passes in the state legislature.
23 other states have laws that limit or restrict how dogs can be tethered. It’s time that North Carolina protects animals and passes the Fiona Mae Wagglebottom’s Act and ban tethering in the state! Sign this petition to demand North Carolina ban tethering!

A 1,300-pound walrus named Freya captured hearts in Norway and became somewhat of a tourist attraction in the city. However, Norway warned that the public was coming too close to the wild animal and threatened to kill her if the public did not stay away.
The public continued to get close and was even teasing poor Freya. A boat owner was seen poking for Freya with a boat oar to get her off of his boat. During the video, the man even seems to be enjoying taunting the poor animal that is in the water that she called home.
Heartbreaking news came just days after the government’s threats and they ultimately euthanized Freya. It is not her fault that humans would not stay away from her. She was not hurting anyone and was simply in her natural habitat. There is no reason that authorities should not have handled the public and monitored the situation instead of euthanizing an innocent animal. Sign this petition to demand justice for Freya!
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a republican United States Representative, has been using her social media account to spew lies and misinformation about the origins of monkeypox. She has been using offensive and unhinged conspiracy theories to push hate onto the LGBTQ+ community. “Monkeypox is not considered a sexually transmitted disease, but it is often transmitted through close, sustained physical contact, which can include sexual contact,” according to the CDC. Although sexually active gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men have had a heightened number of infections during the outbreak, the disease does not only infect this community.
Rep. Greene tweeted a video last month of a CDC director discussing child infections with the comment, “if Monkeypox is a sexually transmitted disease, why are kids getting it?”
Monkeypox is not a sexually transmitted disease, but it can be transmitted through sex. Recently, incorrect information was flooding the internet after gay men were told to be careful amid the monkeypox outbreak. Greene’s comments demonize gay people and insinuate that gay men are sexually abusing children and giving them monkeypox.
Sign this petition to demand Twitter kick off Marjorie Taylor Greene for monkeypox disinformation!

Running of the bulls is a cruel event in Spain where bulls are forced to run through tiny streets with people running ahead of them. Animal rights groups have been trying to ban this event for years and have held protests before this dangerous tradition. The animals who are forced to run are not willing participants. They suffer serious injuries, but these concerns seem to be disregarded since the event is all about “fun” and “adrenaline.” Animal groups have repeatedly called for the government to ban these bull festivals as they are endangering the lives of the locals and causing abuse to the animals.
The event is even strategically arranged in a path where the bulls end up in the bullfighting ring. They then are used in violent bullfights throughout the year in which they meet their cruel, bloody death. So many Spaniards do not approve of this event. It’s time that the county listened! Sign this petition to tell Spanish authorities to ban bullfighting and bull-running!

Recreational marijuana is legal in 21 states and territories, and medical marijuana is legal in over a dozen more. However, marijuana is still criminalized at the federal level despite Support for legalizing the drug. Cannabis has been illegal in the United States for 50 years. Tens of millions of Americans are in jail across the country for using, possessing, or selling the drug. Marijuana has medicinal properties and does not incite violence like other drugs such as alcohol.
Children all across the states grow up without parents because they are incarcerated for something legal in nearly half of the states. Many of these families are people of color who are victims of the cruel War on Drugs, which targeted Black and Brown Americans and used petty charges like marijuana possession to keep them locked up. It’s time that legislators showed that they care about ending systemic racism! Sign this petition to demand Congress lift federal prohibitions on marijuana!
