Wild Earth, a plant-based pet food brand, has introduced its first vegan cat food, Unicorn Pate. This innovative wet food meets and surpasses the standards set by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), ensuring its nutritional adequacy for cats.
Unicorn Pate is made with a blend of lentils, peas, sweet potatoes, and marine microalgae, fortified with essential vitamins and minerals. Despite cats being obligate carnivores who typically need nutrients like taurine from animal sources, Unicorn Pate is formulated to provide all necessary nutrients through plant-based ingredients.
This launch follows a recent study showing that cats on nutritionally complete vegan diets experienced notable health benefits, including reduced medication use and fewer veterinary visits. The study supports the notion that vegan diets can be beneficial for feline health when properly formulated.
Wild Earth aims to offer a plant-based alternative for cats, particularly those with allergies to animal proteins. The company, which began with dog food and gained recognition from a Shark Tank appearance in 2019, hopes this new product will set a standard in the pet food industry for healthier, sustainable options. Unicorn Pate is now available on the Wild Earth website.
