Police have arrested two men on charges of animal cruelty and seized more than a dozen animals from a home in Ansonia, Connecticut. The police discovered the animals while conducting an unrelated investigation, leading to a disturbing revelation of severe animal neglect.

Upon searching the residence, officers found several emaciated dogs in urgent need of medical attention. In total, they seized 11 dogs and three cats from the home. Tragically, they also discovered a deceased dog, with a necropsy planned to determine the cause of death.

Several of the surviving dogs were immediately taken to an emergency animal clinic. A veterinarian assessed their conditions and determined that two of the dogs were too ill to be saved, necessitating euthanasia. The other dogs are still receiving treatment, as the police continue their investigation into the extent of the neglect.

A 30-year-old resident of the home has been charged with multiple counts of cruelty to animals, failure to comply with dog ownership requirements, and failure to adhere to rabies control ordinances. He was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on June 20. Additionally, a 26-year-old man residing at the same address faces similar charges of animal cruelty, failure to comply with dog ownership requirements, and failure to follow rabies control ordinances. He posted a $1,000 bond and is due in Derby Superior Court on June 14, 2024.

The investigation is ongoing as police work to ensure that all surviving animals receive the necessary care and that justice is served for the egregious neglect uncovered at the residence.
