On Friday, Mars Petcare US announced a voluntary recall for 315 bags of Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition grilled steak and vegetable-flavored dry dog food. The recall affects only the 44-pound bags with a best-by date of March 4, 2025, and Lot Code 410B2TXT02. These bags were sold exclusively at Walmart locations in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. This action was taken due to the potential presence of loose metal in the product.
According to an update on the Pedigree website, there have been no reported injuries or illnesses related to this issue. However, Mars Petcare advises pet owners to monitor their dogs for any unusual behavior and consult a veterinarian if they have concerns. Customers who have purchased the potentially affected dog food should stop using it immediately and contact Mars Petcare US consumer care for further instructions.
Walmart has listed the specific stores that sold the recalled product on its website. Both Newsweek and Pedigree have reached out to Walmart for additional comments regarding the recall.
On a related note, Bausch + Lomb recently issued a recall for its Project Watson Eyelid Wipes for dogs due to potential fungal and bacterial contamination. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) indicated that the contamination risk arises when the wipes’ containers are opened. These wipes were available at PetSmart, Walmart, and other national retailers. Seven reports of substances developing in the opened containers prompted the recall, and customers are urged to stop using the wipes and seek refunds.
Product recalls like these are critical measures to protect consumer safety, often initiated due to contamination risks or labeling issues.
