During the ongoing airstrikes in southern Lebanon, a man named Hussein Hamza is focused on saving the lives of animals left behind. In a video posted online, Hamza is seen with a terrified dog clinging to him inside his car as he shows the aftermath of an Israeli missile strike. “Poor thing. Look at this; he’s clinging to me out of fear,” Hamza says, his voice filled with emotion.
Despite the chaos, as tens of thousands flee their homes, Hamza remains determined to stay. He runs an animal shelter in the village of Kfour that cares for 200 dogs, but his efforts don’t stop there. He has also been driving through nearby villages, searching for abandoned pets and strays, providing them with food and water. “I opened bags of food and left them water. I’m relying on God,” he said, preparing in case the animals need to flee the shelter if airstrikes get too close.
The situation in Lebanon has grown increasingly dire, with over 1,000 people killed in recent weeks due to Israeli airstrikes. Despite the dangers, Hamza’s commitment to caring for animals is evident.
