There’s a reason people say never to get between a mama bear and her cubs. Unfortunately, a cement roadway barrier seems to have separated one little cub from his mom, leaving him vulnerable to the high speed traffic coming his way.
A bear’s devotion to her young has become a metaphor for any strong mothering instinct, and this video shows us why. Before the cub is in any kind of trouble, the mama bear picks him up by the scruff of the neck and lifts him over the barrier to safety. It is simply her instinct to protect her babies and put their well-being before her own.
It’s unclear how the cub got on the other side of the rail. He was probably trying to climb it like any other wall, unaware of the dangers lurking on the other side. Near the end of the clip, you can see his little sibling peeking curiously over the edge. I hope he doesn’t topple over, too, but if he does, mama bear is there to protect him.
