Chicken, an Irish wolfhound, has become an unlikely helper at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell Animal Medical Center (MSPCA-Angell). Brought to work by her human as a puppy, Chicken’s calm nature quickly made her a favorite among staff and animals alike. Her role evolved when she started comforting shy puppies, helping them adjust to shelter life.
At just 18 months old, Chicken was introduced to a nervous pup, and her presence immediately calmed the animal. Her owner explained, “We saw pretty immediately that her behavior was really helping that puppy to feel a bit more confident.”
Today, Chicken continues her work by helping puppies like Twister, a 4-month-old newcomer — who quickly got adopted. A recent Instagram post of Chicken working with Twister has gone viral, with over 2.8 million views and 129,000 likes. The video shows Chicken patiently guiding Twister through play, demonstrating how adult dogs can provide stability and confidence to young, anxious animals.
