What does a dog, a nurse, an elderly woman, a number of wheeled things, and a rocket have in common? Honestly, nothing, unless you are watching the animated short titled Top Dog!
Top Dog was created in just two days for The 48 Hour Film Project in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 2014 by the filmmaking team, Team Sjalot Ink. This film project is described as a “wild and sleepless weekend” for teams dedicated to making a movie in just 48 hours. You and your team receive a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre Friday night, all are required to be in your movie. Also included to be completed in the 48 hours is the writing, shooting, editing, scoring, and submitting the final cut, then your movie is shown in a local movie theater, typically, the following week!
Team Sjalot Ink.’s assigned genre was Inspirational Movie and boy, did they run with it! Top Dog stars a dog determined to live life to the fullest no matter how many bumps and bruises he gets. Top Dog won prizes such as best use of character and best use of prop, and was nominated for best use of genre.
