For stray dogs, nothing comes easy. Finding a meal is a journey that is sometimes fruitless, water is a luxury that is not always found, and privacy does not exist. For pregnant homeless dogs, this reality is all the more stressful. After all, stray mothers don’t just worry about their own well-being, but that of their babies. Recently, a pregnant stray dog in Moscow, on the brink of giving birth, sought out a safe place to give birth to her little ones. Her haven of choice? Moscow’s Metro (during morning rush hour, no less).

Once commuters realized what was happening they alerted metro personnel to the situation. What happens next is truly admirable. While humans may not always be the most considerate of stray dogs, with many accidentally hitting them with cars but not stopping or turning their cheek when seeing injured dogs on the streets, the metro personnel knew that this stray mama deserved some respect. She had already given birth to one puppy and there were clearly more on the way, so, instead of ousting her from the train, they told the human passengers to evacuate and give this sweet stray some space. The train was then moved into a depot to give the mama some much-needed peace and quiet.

From there, the sweet mama would give birth to eight more healthy puppies. Thanks to the help from the metro, this birth went very smoothly – likely a lot smoother than it would have gone on the streets.

The kindness of Moscow Metro staff didn’t just stop there, though. After transferring mom and puppies to an animal shelter, personnel tweeted out to alert the public of the situation and help the puppies get adopted!

The compassion displayed by the Moscow Metro in this situation was truly commendable. It’s so easy nowadays to forget that humans share Earth with other species and that these animals are just trying to navigate through the world just like us. It’s refreshing to see that when animals have a tough time doing so, there are humans out there that will lend a hand. The people in Moscow have been so moved by the story that it’s very likely that these puppies will find forever homes quickly. Good luck, little guys!

  1. Now if only Russia would stop bombing syrian children and blowing up hospitals filled with civilians in Syria and blowing civilian passenger jets out of the sky.

  2. In Moscow, stray dogs are known to travel the Metro by smell. Their strong sense of smell tells them instinctively where they are in Moscow\’s massive Metro system. I suspect this dog has been on the Metro before, thus knew there would be a place to lay down. As for the Russian people, they are some of the finest people on earth. I don\’t know why the U.S. doesn\’t cooperate with them more. If this episode happened on a subway train here in the U.S., some corporate hack would\’ve treated the dog like trash, and evicted it from the train, so the wealthy capitalists in this country can continue to make a buck. "How dare some pregnant dog deprive our company of raking in big bucks" (sarcasm)

    1. Hellery would have kicked the" GDF*****g" dog out, and then without making eye contact yelled at some other person to get rid of her. Have read too many times how hellery can out swear the worst of them while ignoring looking out her victims in the eyes while she screams at them because they are "below" her level.
