We Can’t Believe Someone Could Starve a Dog Like This…

Author Bio

I am a writer and illustrator living in Poland.

It’s hard to believe how many dogs have to face a fate which should never be a part of their lives. We see homeless animals on every street, hear about dogs being abused by their guardians practically every day. However heartbreaking it may be, we cannot look away from the instances and such behaviors – it’s critically important to pay attention to them, help whenever we can, and do everything to educate and inspire others to do the very same.

Mutts in a Rut Rescue recently became home to Malachi, an extremely abused dog. He came to the rescue as a stray, but it’s highly probable that this dog’s past was not simply one of a stray animal roaming the streets in search of food and shelter. The rescue team suspects that Malachi could have be abused by his previous owner. It’s enough to look at this poor creature to see why such suspicions come into play in this case. At one year old, Malachi weights only 19 pounds, which means he is at least 20 pounds underweight! It is very likely that he was being starved and then thankfully escaped.

Malachi is currently under the specialized care of Mutts in a Rut Rescue’s vet. His health is seriously impaired – he is anemic and dehydrated and will need a lot of careful attention and medical care.

Due to the risk of overfeeding, which is a serious worry after periods of starvation, as long and severe as the one Malachi had been subjected to, he is now being fed small portions many times throughout the day.

Once Malachi feels better and is in better physical shape, he will be moved to an experienced foster home where he will be recovering and awaiting adoption – a new family that this time will not fail his love and trust.

It’s frightful to think how many dogs face the same fate as Malachi – how many incredible animals who only want to be our best friends and give us all their love get treated in such an unbelievably cruel way. Fortunately, many organizations like Mutts in a Rut Rescue work hard to change the world for those animals.

  1. It is indeed a mystery how anyone could do this to a dog. If only this was an isolated incident but of course there are multitude sod animals who suffer at the hands of humans every day. Malachi is one of the eventually lucky ones as he was found and given love and good care. He is a handsome guy and will surely have a good home where he will get all the love and care he needs.
