Few things are as sad as a hungry, struggling mother doing everything she can to take care of her babies. Whether human or animal, the bond between mother and child is indescribable. This is a story of one such mother doing all she could for her babies, despite being alone, hungry, and scared. This is the story of Solar and her seven puppies.
Like any animal living in a dirty, abandoned basement, Solar was not exactly trusting when the Stray Rescue of St. Louis sent two rescuers to find her and her puppies. She let them know with a few barks that she was suspicious, particularly as they drew nearer and nearer to her babies. But with patience and kindness from a caring rescuer named Randy, Solar gave them her trust, even after perhaps never having had a gentle touch in her life.
Now, she and her seven puppies are out of that dank, dirty basement and in good hands. They will be receiving care but are not out of the woods yet. There’s still work to be done but seeing the love of the rescuers makes us confident that the little family couldn’t possibly be in a better place.
To help the Stray Rescue of St. Louis to perform more rescues like this, and to care these animals the care they need, please donate. Passion counts for a lot but ultimately money pays the bills. If you need some encouragement to donate, check the comments on the original Facebook post with this video. It’s full of kind people, ready to help, and shows that there are still kind people out there.
