In Napa County, California, the Atlas Fire, one of the many devastating wildfires ravaging the state this year, claimed a large patch of land and tragically destroyed a number of homes. Seemingly, nothing that crossed path with the fire could have possibly come out of it unscathed – but, during work on the site recently, firefighters made an unbelievable discovery. Among the debris left by the fire on a hillside, they found a little grey kitten, nestled inside the foundation of a demolished house.
The kitten was found by Truckee Fire Engine 292 and Amador Fire Battalion Chief Aaron Watkins. His uncanny story was recounted in a Facebook post by the Truckee Fire Protection District. The little survivor was first spotted as he was running across the hillside and into a hole in the side of the foundation on a house. Since there was still much hot ash and burning roots around the place, the crew stepped in and did all they could to get to the cat and bring the animal back to safety.
“The kitten had minor burns and singed whiskers, but was overall doing well. It is now in the care of Napa Animal Control,” Amador Fire told Love Meow.
Thanks to the firefighters’ intervention, the little miracle kitty is now out of danger and being taken care of at the shelter. Hopefully, the animal will be reunited with his family soon – or, if not, a new home will prove to be just around the corner!
