Kai, the Shar-Pei mix, was left tied up to a railing at a train station in Scotland on Friday. The dog was left with a suitcase of his “belongings,” including a bed, bowls, food and some toys. This doesn’t make the fact he was left alone any better, though. Animal welfare experts say that the dog’s caretakers could face a lifetime ban from keeping animals after this incident.
The U.K.’s Abandonment of Animals Act 1960 states that, “if any person being the owner or having charge or control of any animal shall without reasonable cause or excuse abandon it, whether permanently or not, in circumstances likely to cause the animal any unnecessary suffering, he shall be guilty of an offence of cruelty.”
People guilty of animal cruelty being unable to ever own an animal again sounds like the perfect rule!
Unfortunately, the Scottish SPCA is struggling to find Kai’s caretakers. Though the dog was microchipped, the previous caretakers had given him away through a website in 2013. They had no information on the people they had entrusted this dog’s life to.
“This case highlights the potential consequences of selling an animal online, as it often leads to the impulse buying of pets that people know very little about,” says SPCA Inspector, Stewart Taylor. “Regardless of the fact Kai was left with his belongings, this was still a cruel incident and we are keen to identify the person responsible.”
Kai was taken the the SPCA in Glasgow, and within hours of him arriving, hundreds of people had called offering to adopt the sweet boy. Kai is lucky to find a new home where is caretakers will actually take the role of pet parent. Though Kai’s previous caretakers left him abandoned him in the “best” possible way, they still abandoned him. Hopefully, these people will be found and charged with animal abandonment, making it impossible for them to ever abandon another dog.

i think this just broke what was left of my heart. Humanity is sick.
I am beyond being amazed at the behaviour of the " human " species towards animals. However, whoever left this dog with all his belongings, did so, knowing that he\’d be noticed and taken into care with items, with which he\’s familiar……. that\’s some saving grace… So, in this instance, there was some thought for the dog.
