Day after day, we are bombarded with the stories and images of bad news from all over the world. Why is that? Are we so used to the negative that we can’t see the positive? Maybe it’s because as individuals we have not experienced much kindness from others. But, believe it or not, there are still good people in the world!

Through the clouds of depressing madness comes a phenomenon known as “nice people” — people doing random acts of kindness to help out strangers. One woman found herself on the receiving end of such an act after a friendly conversation sparked with two customers. What happened next was generous and wonderful.

N.J. bartender Christina Summitt got the shock of her life when the customers she had been talking to left her a $1,000 tip on an $80 bar tab! If we could all be so lucky. But for Christina, the money was direly needed to help pay for her baby’s life-saving surgery. Her baby’s name is Tucker, a Great Dane/Black Lab mix, and he had swallowed a hard ball that required emergency surgery to remove.

The customer’s generosity was more than Christina thought she could accept. Like many people, she was probably flat-out not used to someone, especially a stranger, giving a damn. She burst into tears when told to put the money toward Tucker’s medical costs, thus alleviating a big chunk of the $2,700 vet bill.

“I just stood there in shock. I walked around and hugged this couple. They said, ‘We’ll be praying for Tucker,’” Christina said to CNN.

Restores your faith in humanity a bit, doesn’t it? Whether a big or small act, we should all do something for others purely out of the goodness of our hearts, simple as that. We are all in this world together!
