It can be hard not to become desensitized to the plight of orphaned animals. Time and time again, we are met with heartbreaking stories of animals who lost their parents to poachers, were separated from their mothers at factory farms, or sadly, rejected by their parents for one reason or another. Even if these young animals are lucky enough to make it to a sanctuary, that’s not where the work ends. In the absence of the animal’s mothers, sanctuary workers need to step in to ensure the babies are developing correctly and stay in good health.
Prince, the foal in the video above, was rejected by his mother shortly after birth. Luckily, it wasn’t long until he was brought to the Best Friends Animal Society Sanctuary for care. The sanctuary workers were well aware that raising a motherless foal is an around-the-clock job that would take a lot of effort, money, and patience but they were determined to do everything they could to help this little guy!
Thankfully, they had some help. Feather, or “Uncle Feather” a fellow horse at the sanctuary took Prince under his wing. He teaches him how and where to gallop, how to dust bathe, and is always there to play. Prince may not have a mother to care for him, but at least he has some really great friends! We wish him nothing but the best. To learn more about Best Friends Animal Society, check out their website.
