What ReaderRita wrote about charcoal and medications can be true (depending on the timing of the meds and the ingestion of charcoal). But the comment in the article about charcoal preventing the absorption of nutrients is not correct. Studies done which involved feeding charcoal to animals long term found no signs of nutritional deficiency. Charcoal does not adsorb nutrients, only toxins. See the book "Charcoal" by Drs. Calvin and Agatha Thrash for documentation and details.
This smoothie is really dangerous if you are on any prescribed oral medication. Activated Charcoal is what they use to treat drug overdoses in the ER- it works by preventing the medication from being absorbed into the bloodstream; so, if you are on any oral medication, charcoal will render it useless. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK CHARCOAL if you are on any oral drug, or birth control pills- charcoal will make them not work.
