Mangosteen is a tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The fruit have a round, purple-colored fruit with a thick, leathery rind and a juicy, white flesh. Bilal Bhatti described the funky-looking fruit as similar to garlic in appearance, with a sweet and sour taste. Contrary to the name, they don’t look or taste like a mango!
The fruit is about the size of a tangerine and has a sweet, tangy flavor, with a hint of citrus, and is often compared to a combination of peach, strawberry, and pineapple. It is a member of the same family as the other tropical fruits such as the lychee, rambutan, and longan.
This tropical fruit can be eaten fresh, juiced, or added to smoothies and other recipes. They contain immunity-supporting vitamin C in addition to some B-complex vitamins including thiamin, niacin, and folates, which help with your metabolism. What’s more, mangosteens have high amounts of copper, manganese, magnesium, and potassium packed in their juicy white flesh.
If you’ve never tried mangosteen, you need to give it a try!
