The Turnip is a new web-series exploring plant-based options and vegan culture in the U.S., starting with the Atlanta, Georgia area.
Hosts Kyna, Jerome, and Jason interview the owners of vegan restaurants in the area. They then highlight some of Atlanta’s tastiest plant-based meals.
“We decided to create ‘The Turnip’ because we wanted to provide a plant-based approach to the African American community (by African American owners),” Kyna told Black Vegans Rock.
“We wanted to provide an entertaining yet insightful view into plant-based eating. It’s not all exclusive to a certain group. It’s all-inclusive and exposes you to a wide range of foods that is healthier for you,” Kyna added. “Therefore, ‘The Turnip’ wanted to highlight the resources out there and discuss the health benefits of certain herbs and ingredients. Also, we feature the most well-respected vegans in the African American community.”
Kyna added that the show has plans to travel to other cities besides Atlanta, highlighting delicious vegan food around the country.
In the web series’ first episode, the hosts talk to Fran, the owner of Decatur’s Go Vegetarian, a plant-based eatery focusing on vegan versions of classic comfort food favorites like chicken and waffles, Philly cheesesteaks, and Southern fried chicken.
They’ve also covered raw vegan restaurant Tassili’s Raw Reality in Atlanta’s West End.
