Peet’s Coffee is going vegan! The company has just launched a vegan spring menu that includes Beyond Meat, JUST Egg, and Violife.
The vegan market is on an upward trajectory, and so many companies worldwide are now joining in. The US plant-based market grew by 27% in 2020, and the global vegan market is expected to be worth $24.3 billion by 2026. With all of the companies that now offer animal-free options, it’s easy to find a plant-based option wherever you go nowadays.
Last week, Peet’s Coffee’s longtime competitor, Starbucks, announced another oat milk shaken espresso drink. Peet’s took it a step forward, opened the vegan flood gates, and revealed their full vegan and dairy-free items for their spring menu.
The menu includes oat-based lattes with hazelnut, almond, and vanilla flavors. The food menu will feature an Everything Plant-Based Breakfast Sandwich with Beyond Breakfast sausage, JUST Egg, and Violife vegan cheddar cheese. And we can’t forget about the Mediterranean flatbread with vegan smoked provolone cheese and pesto, kale, tomatoes, and bell peppers.
Lori Fulmer, in Food R&D for Peet’s Coffee, spoke about the vegan menu consumers have been asking for, “Plant-based foods are not alternatives or substitutes at Peet’s Coffee. At a time when most consumers are lucky to find one plant-based option in restaurants, Peet’s is taking our commitment to the next level with a menu that highlights high-quality vegan ingredients that taste delicious and have great flavor.”
According to a report by Fior Markets, the global dairy alternatives market is expected to grow from $19.79 billion in 2020 to $47.95 billion by 2028. Another report found that the plant based-meat market was estimated to be worth $6.67 billion in 2020 and will likely grow to $16.7 billion in 2026.
It’s no wonder why companies are jumping on the vegan train and keeping up with consumer demand. After years of pleading with big companies, almost everywhere from McDonald’s, to Subway, and even Wendy’s has plant-based options now.
Although Starbucks has a breakfast sandwich with Impossible meat, it still has egg and cheese, essentially destroying the point. Peet’s is taking their plant-based menu to a whole other level, and their items will be entirely vegan.
Readily available vegan options make it easier for people to make the switch. Many are starting to realize that eating vegan isn’t dull, and it doesn’t cost more than eating animal products. Not only is eating vegan good for your health, but it’s also great for the environment. The livestock industry is responsible for an enormous portion of global greenhouse emissions. A 2018 study found that if we stopped eating meat and dairy, farmland would be reduced by 75%, and we would still be able to feed the entire planet.
Reducing your meat intake and eating more plant-based foods is known to help with chronic inflammation, heart health, mental wellbeing, fitness goals, nutritional needs, allergies, gut health, and more! Unfortunately, dairy consumption also has been linked to many health problems, including acne, hormonal imbalance, cancer, prostate cancer, and has many side effects.
