On April 22, Impossible Foods opened the Impossible Ranch in the Blue Ridge Mountains in South Carolina. Spanning 70 acres, this ranch isn’t your typical cattle farm; it’s a sanctuary for nine lucky bovines, rescued from the fate of slaughter for consumption.

Jeremy Davis, Impossible Foods’ VP of brand strategy, emphasized the significance of this venture, stating, “Impossible Ranch allows us to bring consumers on a journey straight to the verdant source and present a tangible representation of our farm-based roots.” Through this initiative, Impossible Foods aims to demystify the ingredients and processes underpinning their plant-based meat products, reinforcing their commitment to sustainability and animal welfare.

While the crops cultivated on the ranch, including soybeans, sunflowers, and coconut trees, won’t find their way directly into Impossible Foods’ products, the daily operations will be meticulously documented. This documentation will showcase the transition away from traditional cattle ranching towards a more sustainable model, offering consumers a glimpse into the journey from farm to table.

Davis highlighted the importance of consumer engagement in this endeavor, acknowledging the growing trend of individuals scrutinizing the origins and impact of their food choices. “We all know people are paying closer attention to what’s in their food and the impact it has on the planet,” he remarked. “As newer entrants to the meat game, we felt an urgency to demystify the ingredients in our products but in an approachable, fun, and super social way.”

To further amplify their message, Impossible Foods invited consumers to participate in naming the resident cows through social media engagement. Additionally, the brand strategically advertised its ranch efforts at the Oculus Transportation Hub in Manhattan, reaching a broader audience and fostering dialogue around sustainable food practices.

The campaign video captures the essence of the ranch, inviting viewers to witness the journey of these rescued cows and the innovative process of growing meat from plants. Davis emphasized that Impossible Foods’ mission revolves around making a positive impact on the planet, as well as the welfare of animals and humans alike. “The goal is to reveal a more visual and understandable connection between meat from plants and the positive influence our products have on both animal welfare and the environment,” he stated.
