New Futuristic Robot Pet Camera Promises Cute Clips While You’re At Work

Pet cameras are everywhere now, and CES 2026 just pushed the idea further. Vex is a rolling robot that follows your cat or dog, plays with them, and films from a low angle. It also uses AI to cut the day into short stories you can share. According to Dominic Preston at The Verge, the maker FrontierX has not shown an example of the edited video yet, and the company does not even have a website live.

That matters, because new gadgets usually arrive with hidden costs. A roaming camera means more charging, more data, and more cloud computing. All of that adds emissions to the environment, even if it looks harmless in your living room. It can also create more electronics that end up as waste on Earth, including here in the US.

There is also the animal side. Some pets may love a moving toy, while others could feel stressed or chased. If you try a device like this, watch body language and give your pets an easy escape route. The point is joy, not constant monitoring.

FrontierX is also building Aura, a larger companion ball for people that reads facial cues and talks with a large language model. That raises a different question. When we outsource comfort to machines, we can forget the low impact things that Support health, like sleep, time outdoors, and community.

If these bots arrive, we should demand better design. Look for long battery life, repair options, and clear privacy controls. Also think about whether a simple tripod and a thrifted camera could do enough. Spending less can protect your wallet and the planet.

Care for your animals, and keep it simple with plant based choices. Then add more vegan meals and buy less tech to protect the environment.
