Injured Baby Zebra Gets a Little Cast and a Lot of Love at Rhino Sanctuary (PHOTOS)

This baby zebra is lucky to be alive. He was recently found in a bush with a broken leg. In the wild, this type of injury almost always means certain death. Fortunately, this little zebra named Shaq was found and taken to the wonderful team at The Rhino Orphanage. Although this organization specializes in the rearing of baby rhinos, they are always up to helping any orphaned animal in need. Though no one is sure how this little one ended up alone with a broken leg, the most likely culprit is poaching.

This cutie drinks 250 milliliters of milk every couple hours and his weight is up to 27 kilograms.

Shaq’s caretakers make sure he gets a good amount of exercise so he continues to grow healthy and strong.

Everyone is falling in love with Shaq’s charismatic personality and oh-so-soft fur. Seriously, how precious is that face?!

The compassionate folks at The Rhino Orphanage are taking good care of this adorable baby and we can’t wait to see him running around on all four legs.

The Rhino Orphanage is a non-profit located in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. They are dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating baby rhino’s who have been orphaned as a result of the poaching crisis. The organization specializes in rearing the babies so that they can be returned to the wild. By restricting human contact, socializing them with other rhinos, and encouraging natural behaviors, the once babies can make a successful return to the wild as capable adults. Like many of the baby rhino’s, we hope that Shaq will also be well enough to be returned to the wild one day.
