Every year, six to eight million animals enter U.S. shelters, but only three to four million get adopted. Life in an animal shelter can be understandably terrifying for dogs as their days are filled with loud noises, strange people constantly walking by, and no human to call their own.

But Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant decided to do something to help. Recently, Dez bought an entire display of food for shelter dogs.

The Lost Paws Rescue of Texas posted on their Facebook page, “Thank you to Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver Dez Bryant for supporting Lost Paws Rescue of Texas. Dez purchased this entire table of pet food for the dogs in our rescue group.”

Thank you, Dez! We love reading amazing stories of compassion such as this one. If you feel inspired after reading this story, you can make a difference in the lives of homeless animals simply by volunteering.

Organizations rely heavily on volunteers to assist with animal care and day-to-day operations. There’s never a shortage of things to do and opportunities are available for people of every skill set. You can help take dogs for walks, give them food and water, and make sure their area is clean. If your preference is helping out behind the scenes, you can volunteer your services by assisting with fundraisers, outreach events or general office tasks. And please, always adopt and never shop!

  1. If every one who sees this story would donate just $5.00 to a shelter near them the world could change for many animals. If you think your $5.00 doesn\’t make a difference then ask a shelter worker what they think, when you do. At my shelter $5.00 will feed a dog for two days.
This page has been shared by 701 people so far and if every one who shared this gave it would be $3,505.00 and that is more than what that table of food cost.

  2. Now this is an athlete whose kindness I can support. I am not a fan of football but I am a fan of anyone who helps animals. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
