Watch a Weather Channel Meteorologist School Climate Change Deniers in Under 2 Minutes (VIDEO)

Ahhhh, science! Don’t you just love it? In a world where there is so much debate about what is real and what is not, the one thing that you simply cannot argue with are the cold hard facts of science. Right? Well, in the case of Breitbart News, it seems there may be a slight misunderstanding about the whole phrase “cold hard,” seeing as they continue to post “news” stories (emphasis on the stories) about how Climate change cannot be real, due to the fact that some parts of the world are experiencing cold weather.

Breitbart recently published an article claiming that the concept of Global warming is a “scare” and the planet is actually undergoing a period of climatic cooling, citing a video from the Weather Channel as proof. Breitbart stitched together a video featuring forecaster Kait Parker, who has a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science from the University of Missouri, to illustrate the fallacy of Climate change. In said video, Parker predicted that a La Niña weather pattern is likely to lead to cooler air temperatures this winter and spring in the continental U.S. Note the use of the term “weather pattern” here.

Seems like a classic case of Breitbart simply not understanding there is a difference between weather and climate – it’s an age-old debate … that is actually not a debate at all. Weather refers to conditions in the atmosphere are over a short period of time, and climate is how the atmosphere “behaves” over relatively long periods of time. One is like, “Hey, it’s raining today!” and the other is like, “Wow, we’ve experienced significantly more torrential rainfall, consistently in the past decade!” There’s a huge difference here.

Thankfully, when it came to shutting down the climate-denying public smog machine that is Breitbart, Kait Parker did not hold back. In the video above, the highly knowledgeable meteorologist explains exactly how we can experience cooling patterns while still being in the midst of a period of global warming. The video was posted with the simple caption: “Note to Breitbart: Earth is not cooling, Climate change Is real and please stop using our video to mislead Americans.”

If we learned one thing during the course of this past election cycle, it’s that at this point in time, opinions spewed by “authoritative figures” are being given more weight than true and real facts. This is especially the case when it comes to climate change, and perpetuating the idea that Climate change “is not real” or is “not caused by human activity,” is not only wildly dangerous (considering many scientists believe we’ve already reached a “point of no return” on climate) but also HIGHLY irresponsible. Whole countries of people are being displaced by rising sea levels, the future of food security is hanging in the balance. Opinions are not facts. Science and its inevitable consequences are not the same as liking coffee over tea.
