No, Those Aren’t Cacti – They’re Vegan Cakes … and We Are Obsessed With Them

If you know us, then you know that we’re kind of into adorable vegan treats. Not a day goes by that we don’t check in on The Cinnamon Snail’s Instagram feed and obsess over all the cute vegan doughnuts that we could be eating. So you can bet that we’re also on board with the recent trend of turning everything into a unicorn — see these Unicorn Chocolate Cupcakes and Unicorn Cookies and tell us that they’re not (almost) too cute to eat. We don’t think unicorn food is going to be going away anytime soon, but we also think we just stumbled upon what just might be the next big cake decorating trend — succulents. Yes, succulents. Those little cactus-like plants that social media is a little obsessed with at the moment.

According to Nashville Scene, Beca Lewis Skeel, the founder of Leeuw Bake Shop, was able to turn her part-time hobby into a full-time job thanks to a growing social media following on Instagram.

Of course, they also taste great. According to Skeels, “I would say, like, 65 percent of my customers aren’t vegan. And every single time they’re like, ‘I wouldn’t have known it was vegan.’”

Beca draws her decorating and baking inspiration from her roots in the American Southwest, “Everything I do correlates to a traditional Southern recipe. That’s how I was taught to bake from my grandma.”

And, side note, we need these potted cactus cakes in our lives.
