One month to the day that Elsa the kitten was brought to the Denver Dumb Friends League (DDFL)  by a caring stranger who found her alone and freezing, she’s going home with a brand new pet parent!

Actually, her new parent isn’t exactly new to her as the kind human who will now be sharing his home with this sweet little survivor is none other than a volunteer who fostered her while she fought her way back from hypothermia. Discovered half-covered by snow and suffering from hypothermia, Elsa’s story could have had a far less happy ending. Animals left out in freezing conditions are at risk for frost-bite, hypothermia and death.

It’s imperative that we humans always make sure that our furry friends are brought in from the cold and outfitted with proper gear (depending on breed) to help protect them from the unforgiving elements while out for supervised, cold-weather playtime. If you see an animal left out in the elements, always be sure to take the appropriate steps to help that animal by either stepping in yourself if it’s reasonably safe to do so or alerting the proper people to its situation if not. Especially in the case of strays, there is no one out there looking for that animal. You could be their only lifeline.

Elsa’s happy ending, just in time for the holidays, reminds us that each of us can make a huge difference in the life of an animal. Without Elsa’s rescuers and the kind people at the DDFL, she’d be another homeless animal statistic. Way to go DDFL and congratulations, Jim and Elsa!

Elsa originally knew this volunteer as her foster parent, but now she knows him as Dad.

“Yes, I realize that I’m named for the ice queen from Frozen. No, please, don’t sing the song…”

If you look up “contentment” in the dictionary, this is the entry you’ll find.

“Hey, Dad, would it be cool if I gave you a hug for giving me an awesome home?”

“Thank you.”
