20-year-old Ukrainian photographer Valeria Shashenok shows how her family cooks and eats in a bomb shelter. Her mother has prepared a Ukrainian Borscht in their family’s bomb shelter in war-torn Chernihiv.

Known as @valerisssh on TikTok, Shashenok has gained over 780,000 followers! Her videos have gone viral as she tries to spread some joy during a devastating time.

Shashenok’s mother adds, potatoes, garlic, sugar, cabbage, and “Putin’s blood” in the beets, into the borscht. Shashenok’s growing audience seems to be appreciating her sense of humor during this scary time. This video has accumulated over three million views!

“I want to show what’s happening in my country because I don’t see women like me doing that,” she told The Cut. “I’m that person who always ragged on everything with humor. It’s the best way to show people the problem. I’m that person who always sees light in the dark, and it’s a nice way to do something for my country.”
