Fighting like cats and dogs? Hardly. This St. Bernard seems fascinated rather than infuriated by this little kitty. For her part, the kitten doesn’t seem to feel intimidated in the least by the giant canine.
I can’t help but wonder what’s going on in each of these animals’ heads. The dog can’t take his eyes off this fascinating little cat. What’s he thinking? When he paws at the ground in front of her, is he inviting her to play? Does he think she’s a puppy? Does he think that pattern on her fur is pretty?
The kitten seems uninterested, or perhaps she’s just playing it cool. She chews the grass in front of her nonchalantly. And then… for a moment the dog and cat stare into each other’s eyes. She returns his playful advances. A new friendship is born!
It’s one of those moments we’re told should never happen. Dogs and cats are natural enemies, right? Or, that’s what Tom and Jerry always taught us. It’s as odd as the lion laying down with the lamb, or the fox befriending the hound. But animal friendships like this can and do form.
Maybe we should ask ourselves, if these two can get along, why can’t we all?
