In a significant move towards tackling Climate change, HERO Software has successfully closed a €40 million Series B financing round, aiming to expand its reach across Europe. Originally founded to combat the climate crisis, HERO has emerged as a crucial player in the construction industry by supporting small tradespeople.

So what is HERO? Founded in Hanover in 2020 by Dr. Michael Kessler and Philipp Lyding, HERO Software’s mission began with a focus on reducing carbon dioxide emissions. “The building sector in Germany is responsible for a significant amount of carbon dioxide emissions,” Kessler explained. His background in solar energy and passion for the environment led to the realization that tradespeople were a bottleneck in the energy transition. By providing leads for tradespeople to install solar panels and heat pumps, HERO aimed to mitigate emissions in the building sector.
HERO Software has evolved into a comprehensive platform for tradespeople, facilitating not only the installation of solar and heat pumps but also managing various workflows. This includes plumbing, carpentry, photovoltaic installation, and electrical services. The platform assists with customer contact, project planning, execution, invoicing, and payments, supporting over 20,000 users in the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region.
The success of HERO Software in the DACH region is evident when compared to platforms like Jobber and ServiceTitan in North America, which have raised significant funding but face less competition in Europe. German startup Plancraft, for example, recently completed a €12 million Series A, highlighting the growing market for such platforms in Europe.
HERO’s latest financing round was led by Eight Roads Ventures, with continued Support from Cusp Capital. Lucile Cornet, a partner at Eight Roads Ventures, praised HERO’s comprehensive product and experienced team, emphasizing the potential of vertical SaaS to digitize and sustainably enhance entire industries.
Looking ahead, HERO Software plans to expand into Poland, France, and the Netherlands. Kessler noted that France and other European markets lag behind Germany in technology adoption, presenting an opportunity for HERO to bridge this gap. With its robust platform and growing user base, HERO Software is poised to make a significant impact on both the tradespeople it supports and the broader fight against Climate change.
