Looking at art that positively features animals and all of their vast variations is always an enjoyable thing to do. Likewise for fruits and veggies. So, what would happen if you put both of those things together in order to create a new, unique and thought provoking image? You’d get the art of Sarah DeRemar.

Using photoshop to create the images, DeRemar used animals that reminded her in some way of a corresponding fruit or vegetable. She started the project with the intention of making a quirky pun with the Sea Cucumber piece, but quickly saw that the image was more dynamic than just a visual play on words and began creating more. Saying of her pieces, “I found the forms interesting, and realized that it made a visually strong image that people would have strong opinions about.”

Simple in the design, the pieces  juxtapose animals and food in an eye-catching and thought provoking way. By using foods from the plant world as a framework to display an animal, we see a message of nature’s interconnectedness. But don’t only look at our take on it!  As with any good art, interpretation is left largely to the observer. What do you think DeRemar’s work is saying?
