It was during the first week of August 2014 when The Humane Society of the United States’ Animal Rescue Team descended into a Mississippi town to rescue 65 dogs and puppies from a despicable animal cruelty situation. The HSUS described the scene as: deplorable with a lack of basic care. The dogs were living in conditions considered to be life-threatening — they did not have adequate shelter and were instead forced to live out in the elements without access to fresh water or nutritious food.
One of the 65 rescued dogs from Mississippi is a beautiful little girl named Sasha. You can see her during the rescue trying to run away, letting her broken leg dangle painfully to the side. Although found in physical pain and likely suffering from mental anguish, Sasha is now trusting her rescuers and getting used to good attention and gentle touches. In the video, you hear the volunteer holding Sasha mention how she is just amazed at “[the dogs’] ability to trust again,” so mind-blowing. This makes your heart break for dogs like Sasha.
Having been fed only day old bread for such a long time, Sasha was more than grateful for the simple wet dog food provided to her by the HSUS. This survivor will make a great addition to someone’s family one day soon!
