This amazing rescue of this poor dog got the attention of neighbors in a neighborhood in India where street dogs are common.
The dog in question got herself stuck in a gate at a private home, and although neighbors heard her cries for help, they were too afraid of her to help her – and they called Animal Aid Unlimited, India.
This girl got her happy ending, but many dogs in India don’t get the same chance. Like the U.S., there are millions of stray dogs in India, many of which never make it into rescue shelters or find forever homes. While the concept of “community” dogs is more apparent in the country and many kind individuals will pitch in to care for the many stray pups on the streets, there is still a large concern about disease and even dog bites. This can understandably lead people to be wary of lending a hand to dogs – as the people in this video were.
It is important to remember that although many stray dogs might be vicious, they are only trying to hold their own in a society that otherwise discards them like trash. Many other dogs, like the one in this video, just need a helping hand from their human neighbors. Organizations like Animal Aid Unlimited, India do exactly that kind of work and help animals just like this girl get the assistance they need.
