Gito, the orangutan, was less than five-months-old when the International Animal Rescue team in Borneo found him in 2015. According to rescuers, he had been dumped in a filthy cardboard box and left out in the sun to die. Since then, he has come a long way in his recovery – over the course of just a few months. While he is still undergoing rehabilitation, he is learning all the basics he’ll need to thrive in the wild – one important lesson being how to interact with other orangutans!
In this video, Gito meets another orangutan for the very first time, Asoka. Poor Asoka was taken from the forest and kept as a pet. These two appear to be completely in awe of one another when they’re first introduced. Watching them play just warms our hearts!
You can help Gito, Asoka, and all of the orangutans cared for by International Animal Rescue by visiting their webpage and making a donation. By “adopting” Gito, you can help him on his long road back to the wild.

Absolutely mesmerising. There is so much depth to their eyes, capable of compassion, sadness, joy. I could watch them for hours.
