Key Biscayne, an island near Miami, experienced water temperatures surpassing 89 degrees, creating an almost gooey sensation in the ocean. The unusually hot waters have been a common theme this year, with several record highs measured off Virginia Key. In some areas of Florida Bay, temperatures soared to a staggering 98 degrees, far above the average of 86 degrees for July in Miami.

The extreme heat isn’t confined to the water alone. Miami has endured a record-breaking 16 consecutive days with a heat index at or above 105 degrees. Despite the scorching sand, people flock to the beach to enjoy the crystal-clear, shallow water that gently rolls without a cresting wave in sight.

Beachgoers have been delighted by the unexpected benefits of the warm waters. The beach remains pristine and free from the usual rotting seaweed clusters that typically plague the area this time of year. Moreover, marine life sightings, such as manatees and sharks, add to the excitement of the beach experience.

While the ocean offers a refreshing respite from the heat, beach enthusiasts look forward to the milder temperatures of South Florida’s winter, when the water temperature drops to the mid-70s. But for now, the undeterred regulars and visitors embrace the unique experience of swimming in water that feels like a “Jacuzzi.”

The allure of South Florida’s beaches remains irresistible, despite the occasional siren warning of approaching lightning. Locals and tourists alike cherish the peaceful ambiance and joyous moments they find along the sun-drenched shores.

So, as the heat index continues to soar, South Florida’s beaches provide a delightful escape for those seeking a blissful retreat amid the record-breaking temperatures.
