Romping, barking, sniffing, playing! Most dogs are naturally enthusiastic when it comes to interacting with the outside world, but sometimes this zest for life can put our beloved pooches in sticky situations. This was the case for a little puppy in India who had accidentally found her head stuck in a plastic container.

Members of the community tried to pull the container off the pup’s head, but the plastic was simply too tight. That was when someone decided to call Animal Aid Unlimited, a rescue organization that aims to help the ill and injured stray animals that reside in Udaipur, India. Rescuers were immediately dispatched to the scene where they found a frightened puppy who had been unable to eat or drink because of the plastic.

After taking the puppy to the Animal Aid shelter, rescuers began removing the plastic.

When removing the container, rescuers realized that the plastic was so constricting on the puppy’s neck that open cuts and abrasions were visible.

To help clean wounds and rid her fur of any bacteria or debris that was stuck underneath the container, the puppy’s neck was thoroughly washed.

Thanks to Animal Aid Unlimited, the puppy was safely freed from the plastic debris with only a few minor wounds near her ears and the back of her head. Had locals not called a rescue facility, the puppy would have surely died from either starvation or dehydration.

While this pup lived to tell her tale after becoming entangled in human debris, her incident serves as an important reminder that, while something as seemingly harmless as a soda can or a plastic container may not pose any threats to us, anthropogenic (or human caused) Pollution is a huge threat to our animal friends. Please pick up wastes if you want to avoid placing sweet little puppies (and other animals) in life-threatening situations.
