If you needed a quick but effective reminder to steer away from plastic bottles while doing your grocery shopping today – look no further. The video posted by the organization Glass Walls sheds light on the shocking sight of a river entirely covered in plastic trash – so much so that it looks like a river of garbage in its entirety, not a waterway. “An animal detrimental to humans or human concerns is defined as a ‘pest,’” the caption reads. “Are humans Earth’s worst pest? Are we too smart for our own good?”
In a world where plastic is virtually impossible to escape, it’s more important than ever that we all take action to minimize this kind of pollution. Alternatives, although slowly gaining popularity, are still not easy to come by and we are bombarded with convenient single-use plastics everywhere we go. What the corporations indulging in plastic packaging do not want us to know, is that such small convenience has a huge price.
This is why videos like this one, although not easy to watch, are also seriously needed to remind us to do what we can to make things a little bit better – even if our choices are still very limited.
