Pixie had quite the tragic start in life. Born in the animal agriculture industry, she was not given the proper care or nutrition that she needed and her front legs didn’t develop correctly. As a result, she couldn’t walk and was set to be sold for slaughter. Thankfully, Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary managed to rescue Pixie before that could happen.
It was clear from her tiny, frail body that she would need a great deal of nutrition and exercise if she would have any hope of walking on her own. The amazing Edgar’s Mission staff wasted no time fitting her for custom splints to help stretch out her legs, but they learned that she would also need surgery to lengthen her muscles. Although they were hesitant to put her through surgery due to the risk of complication, everything went well.
Now, thanks in part to that surgery, Pixie is now able to walk on her own! It takes a lot out of her, and she’s not entirely independent yet, but you can see that she’s so happy doing it! We’re sure that at this rate, she’ll be cruising in no time!
