Combining my journalism background and passion for animal rights, I aim to inform, illuminate and inspire our human species to be better stewards to our Earth and all of its furry, finned and four-legged friends. There is no cage, tank or factory farm I won’t tackle to give a voice to our fellow animals. Of course, when there’s an adorable puppy video that the world just needs to see, you can bet I'm wagging my tail to share it with you too. Read more about Amanda Lindner Read More
Despite a reputation for being dumb and dirty, pigs are some of the most intelligent creatures on the planet. They are quick learners and can master skills that even dogs struggle with. Pigs can even learn how to play video games! Can your pet do that? Most people never realize the incredible smarts or complex emotions of pigs because they are most often only considered to be “bacon.” That’s why it warms our heart to see this touching photo of Oliver, a rescued factory farm pig, baking in the sun at Santuario Igualdad Interespecie in Chile.
According to the sanctuary’s Facebook page, Oliver was just one-month-old when he was rescued from a life of misery at a factory farm. Within that short time, he had already been brutally mistreated. Shortly after birth, he was separated from his mother and had his tail, teeth cut off – all without anesthetic. He lived in a locked-up, dark, and dirty warehouse with hundreds of other babies living in filth and despair like him. Without rescue, he would have been slaughtered at just six months of age. Luckily for Oliver, his fate is a much happier one; he has spent four years at the sanctuary and as you can see, is the happiest piggy there could be! All animals should be as lucky as Oliver to be able to bask in the sunlight and enjoy life.
