Florida lawmakers are pushing a dangerous bill—S.B. 918—that would allow 14-year-olds to work overnight shifts, even on school nights. This move threatens children’s education, health, and futures. It’s unconscionable, and we must act now.
Under this bill, mandatory meal breaks for 16- and 17-year-olds could also be scrapped. That means exhausted, low-paid teens—allegedly targeted due to workforce gaps from Trump-era immigration policies—would be left without basic protections.
This isn’t about helping kids. It’s about exploiting vulnerable families and sacrificing children’s well-being for corporate profit. Let’s be clear: it won’t be wealthy children doing these jobs—it’ll be those already facing poverty and systemic injustice.
Children deserve rest, school, and a future—not 2am shifts and skipped meals.
