Texas law prohibits comprehensive sex ed, and all sex ed must be abstinence-based. Clear Lake administration does not effectively protect sexual assault survivors and there is no sex education or lessons about consent. Some students are forced to face their rapists in class even after a report has been filed. There must be more resources in place for students.
The Education Department found that reports of sexual violence at schools rose from about 9,600 in the 2015-2016 school year to nearly 15,000 in the 2017-2018 school year. This is approximately a 50 percent increase.
